When I was eighteen years old, I took my sixteen year old girlfriend mountain climbing on a treacherous ridge. It changed our lives. We were climbing without safety devices. I was ten feet from the top when she grabbed one of the roots or rocks I had loosened and she fell twenty feet below me. In my attempt to go down and rescue her I slipped and fell head first, three hundred feet. On my way down I hit my head on a rock and it tore my scalp off. There were multiple fractures on my skull, my organs were smashed and my left ankle was shattered. I landed in a patch of ginger plants. When the rescue crew found me, I was in a dangerous location. TV cameras arrived to show the rescue, live. Just when the rescuers were ready to grab hold of me, I suddenly moved and fell another 100 feet. After rappelling to where I was (expecting me to be dead), they found me alive, sitting up. That was the beginning of my experience that God is a God of miracles. Whatever you’re facing there is always hope. As Luke 1:37 says, “Nothing is impossible with God.”
