As a young soldier fighting in war Leo Bogee came to a profound realization while bombs exploded around him. He understood that he had made a choice to join the military and decided to make the most of it. He says “It’s what we do in the present that creates our future.” Maturity is evidenced in taking responsibility. The apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13:11, “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.” Our first instinct, when things don’t go as planned, may be to blame. But, a sign of growth is when we can say, “What could I have done to improve the outcome?” That sets us on a course for a much stronger future.
